Chief Operating Officer - Portland, OR Date Posted: September 1, 2009 Legal Resource Group has been retained by a large, highly respected Northwestern law firm to seek an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO). This is a highly responsible position with authority over all administrative management of the Firm.
The primary mission of the COO is to work in a collaborative and focused manner with the Firm Managing Partner and other Firm leaders to advance the Firm's strategic objectives and assure that the Firm is financially successful, to increase the Firm's profitability, to ensure that the administrative departments perform their functions in a highly proficient fashion and work in a cooperative and team-oriented manner to achieve the Firm's strategic, operational and financial objectives, and that the Firm's administrative departments continually seek to identify and implement operational improvements and innovations that strengthen the firm and increase its success.
The Chief Operating Officer is an exempt salary position resident in the Firm's Portland headquarters' office and reporting directly to the Firm Managing Partner.
The successful candidate must operate comfortably across a broad spectrum of responsibilities including hands-on financial and administrative work to issues involving information technology, personnel management, and business judgment. The Chief Operating Officer’s interpersonal characteristics will engender confidence and credibility by virtue of his or her personal presence, demeanor, leadership skills, and professional qualifications.
The successful candidate must have proven experience and successful performance in managing administrative functions in a large law or other professional services firm operating multiple offices in a multi-state environment. It is desired that this experience include accounting and financial reporting, strategic planning, supervision and leadership, presentation skills, management through information, business development/marketing, and professional development. Extensive experience in recruiting, mentoring, managing and developing staff is preferred. It is expected that candidates possess a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in an appropriate field is preferred.
