Chief Information Officer - Milwaukee, WI

An AmLaw 200 Midwestern law firm has retained Legal Resource Group, LLC to assist it in seeking a qualified legal technology professional for a unique opportunity.   This is a highly responsible, newly created position with full responsibility for all technology and business applications for a 200 lawyer law firm with five offices. The position reports directly to the firm’s Executive Director and is located in the firm’s Milwaukee office.

The CIO will work directly with the firm's Managing Partner to develop a strategy for the acquisition, development, and use of technology and systems that are consistent with the firm's overall strategic goals and client service standards.  The CIO will also work directly with the firm's Executive Director in implementing the strategy, including developing and managing a multi-year capital and operations budget for the firm's hardware, software, applications and systems.  Because it is a new position, the CIO will be asked to take a fresh look at the firm's organization including all policies and processes and make recommendations for the improvement of any and all aspects.

The CIO will oversee all personnel in the IT  Department and will be ultimately responsible for providing the firm's attorneys with systems that effectively and efficiently serve client needs.  The CIO will have direct contact with attorneys within the firm including the Practice Group Chairs and Office Managing Partners.

The ideal candidate for this position is currently or has significant recent experience as the IS Director or CIO of a mid-sized firm or is a strong number two person at a large firm.

It is expected that the CIO will have substantial experience in the management of large user multi-location IS operations and some experience working with professional service firms. A strong background in operating an extensive wide area network is an important qualification. The candidate must have had some experience in supervising and managing complex technical work through subordinates.

Knowledge of legal practice is extremely helpful and the CIO must be able to communicate and work effectively with lawyers in a client-service driven private practice law firm environment. The CIO must also have the demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate and retain an effective staff in technical areas.
