Director of Finance (Los Angeles, CA)
Legal Resource Group has been retained by a highly respected law firm, of 250 attorneys, to seek an experienced Director of Finance for the Firm in Los Angeles, California. This is a newly created highly responsible financial management position reporting to the Firm’s Chief Financial Officer. This is a unique opportunity for the right candidate to fill a senior leadership position on the finance team.
About the Position
The Director of Finance will serve as a true deputy to the CFO and will have significant direct interaction with the Firm’s executive management team, including the Managing Partner and Chief Operating Officer. The Director is responsible for working with the CFO in directing, planning, and coordinating operational, reporting, treasury, and compliance functions. This position requires a hands-on leader who will be expected to roll up their sleeves and contribute to the day-to-day work and activities of the finance team.

Candidates should have advanced analytical, critical thinking, and process reengineering skills, along with the ability to interpret financial data into actionable items. Candidates will be organized, detail oriented, and able to multi-task, as well as have proven leadership abilities in managing a finance team. Candidates should have outstanding communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders of all levels. Successful candidates will be organized, detail oriented and able to multi-task.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within a law firm. Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, while a CPA designation is strongly preferred. A thorough knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory requirements is a must. Candidates should be proficient in financial software with advanced Excel skills and experienced with legal-specific financial systems (e.g., 3E, Aderant).

Essential Responsibilities:
Financial reporting and analysis
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis and interpret and report key performance indicators to executive management, including significant interaction with the Managing Partner;
- Develop and maintain financial forecasts identifying risks and opportunities to guide strategic decision making;
- Monitor budget performance, provide variance analysis;
- Interface with leadership, departments, outside service providers and vendors in support of objective and goals.
- Lead development of the annual revenue budget, analyze, interpret, and report results;
- Actively participate in the expense budget, forecasting, analysis and reporting with department heads to establish realistic financial goals and objective;
- Monitor budget performance, provide analysis, and recommend corrective action to achieve financial targets.
- General oversight of day-to-day financial operations;
- Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance;
- Actively participant in financial surveys, insurance applications and reporting;
- Collaborate with external auditors.
- Coordinate compliance reporting related to relevant laws and regulations;
- Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance and best practices;
- Develop and implement internal control procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud and maintain data integrity.
- Supervise and mentor team providing guidance, coaching, training and performance feedback;
- Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment, promoting continuous learning and professional growth;
- Encourage cross-functional collaboration between finance and other departments to streamline processes and optimize efficiency.
